High Street Presbyterian Church emerged as a congregation in 1856, springing up out of need since there were so many people in the town wanting to attend church and one Presbyterian Church building was insufficient to hold them all. By 1858 the congregation had a building of its own situated along High Street in Holywood where it still stands today.
