About God
God Talks To Us
We don't presume to know everything about God (he wouldn't be such an amazing God if we did!), but we believe God has revealed some important things about himself to humanity through the Bible, through his son Jesus, and through the changed lives of Christians all over the world and throughout history.
Starting into the Bible from page one can be pretty daunting (like trying to learn English by reading a dictionary from the start). There are four accounts of Jesus life in the New Testament part of the Bible, Mark is the shortest and a good place to start. Many of the letters that make up most of the New Testament (like Romans, Ephesians, etc.) help us understand what it means to be a Christian and how to live as Christians. We don't want to ignore the Old Testament, it tells us lots of important things about God and sets the scene for Jesus arrival, Genesis, for example, (the first book in the Bible) tells us a lot about who we are, why we're here, and lots of other big questions.
There are lots of good books and websites to help you understand more about Christianity, below are a few links we hope you'll find helpful; and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions you'd like to ask.
God Gives Us Purpose
We've spent much of our time recently looking at the question 'Why on earth am I here?' The answer is that God has a purpose for our lives, which involves:
- Worship - You were planned for God's pleasure
- Fellowship - You were formed for God's family
- Discipleship - You were created to become like Christ
- Ministry - You were shaped for serving God
- Evangelism - You were made for a mission
Many people have been reading 'The Purpose Driven Life' by Rick Warren, a book on which the programme was based, with a chapter for each of the 40 days and over 100 people have joined a small group meeting on a morning or evening during the week, to discuss questions raised by the programme and enjoy fellowship together. These small groups are now continuing, in order to provide fellowship, prayer support, and help people understand what God has said to us through the Bible.
